iMig Advancement Award

2021: Sam Armato, PhD Dr Armato is Associate Professor of Radiology and Medical Physics at the University of Chicago and served as iMig President following two years as President Elect. A Board member since 2010, he led the development of formal bylaws, policies, and governance structures to support transparent leadership transition, broader Board representation, and effective standing committees. During his presidency, he also oversaw the articulation of iMig’s mission and diversity statements and strengthened the organisation’s engagement with related scientific, clinical, and patient communities.

2018: Paul Baas, MD Professor Baas is Professor of Thoracic Oncology at the Netherlands Cancer Institute and has provided sustained and essential service to iMig over more than two decades. He has served as iMig Treasurer since 2002 and played a key role in ensuring the continuity and stability of the organisation. He organised the 9th iMig International Conference in Amsterdam in 2008 and is also an internationally recognised clinician scientist leading mesothelioma clinical trials and translational research, with a strong commitment to mentorship.

2016: Bruce Robinson, MD Professor Robinson received the iMig Service Award in recognition of his foundational and ongoing contributions to the organisation. A co-founder of iMig alongside Marie Claude Jaurand, he served as iMig President from 1993 to 1995, coordinated the 2002 iMig meeting in Perth, and has remained a longstanding Board member. His leadership in mesothelioma immunotherapy and his commitment to openness, collaboration, and patient focused research have shaped iMig since its inception.

2014: Steve Mutsaers, PhD Professor Mutsaers was the inaugural recipient of the iMig Service Award for his exceptional service and leadership, including his term as iMig President. He served as iMig Secretary from 1997 to 2010 and organised the fifth iMig meeting in Grantham in 1999. He is a senior research scientist and head of the Tissue Repair Unit at the University of Western Australia, with internationally recognised expertise in mesothelial biology, tissue repair, and mesothelioma pathogenesis.
